So it's been a long time. This blog has been on my mind a lot lately. Yesterday I logged on and reread my old posts. It was wonderful to read about life with my boys. That was why I originally started this blog, to create a virtual, ongoing time capsule to look back on with my boys someday. I'm hoping to start this up again and capture a bit of life with my loved ones. I have recognized my passion for capturing life in pictures, mostly with my iPhone because it's always handy. I've had a lot of folks mention becoming a photographer but making an official leap sounds scary to me. Mostly because I haven't a clue how to edit or the technical side of taking pictures. So for now, I use my boys as my subjects, instagram as my outlet, and my phone as my camera. Works for me!
As an update, we have moved to Bainbridge Island, WA. we live on 1.3 acres in an old creaky house with a darling little barn and fruit trees. Built in 1951, it's a cute little charmer and we discover interesting things about it every now and again. Life has all but slowed down and has been fun and full of adventure. Summer is in full swing but has had a rocky start. I had surgery almost a month ago. Simply put it was to rebuild my sinus and nasal passages. It was four separate procedures to the inside of my nose and sinuses. The recovery was longer and tougher than expected. So our summer has been spent mostly indoors... I hate it. But I am on the mend now and life is getting back to normal. It will be a while before I am 100% healed and all of the stitches dissolve and the sensitivity goes away. God is so good. He takes care of me. Through this process I have had to ask for a lot of grace and patience. This last year we have spent Christmas and Independence day on our own for the first time. They were special and unique in their own way. We bought chickens in October and have enjoyed raising them, sharing many laughs and learning new lessons together.
Some of my best childhood memories were working with my parents in the garden. A few of my earliest memories were drawing seed planting trenches with a rake and putting seeds in the dirt. My husband has helped me accomplish my dreams of a greenhouse and garden of our own, passing along those priceless traditions to our children. We like to pretend we live on a 'mini-farm.' I hope to continue to catch up on memories and life lessons learned on here and to keep creating this time capsule for my boys.
Here's a few pictures from this last year or so that I've been absent from here:
This was August 2012, our first family camping trip.
This was part of our harvest from the trees on the property Fall of 2012. Apples, Italian Plums, Plums, Blueberries and more.
Riley's first caught fish! Well first one that he ate. Dad cleaned it, mom cooked it. This was the Fourth of July weekend, 2012.
This was August 2012, when we began to fall in love with this Island.
September Sunset 2012.
Our local Feed Store, Bay Hay and Feed has an old horse you can ride, complete with hats to wear.
For a short time we had five ducks. Then four of them turned out to be males, bye bye ducks (they would have all fought over her and they went to live on a duck farm).
Our baby chicks the day they arrived. Loyal little Louie didn't leave their side.
We had our first friends come to visit in November of 2012, Tyler and Ali Stitt, with baby Canaan. We had a lovely time together and Ali took this picture of me. It gives me confidence to keep learning about photography.
More later!
